Stratecon has often provided its expertise through publications, including Hydrowonk Blog, as well as the subscription-based journals Water Strategist, Water Intelligence Monthly, and Journal of Water.
Hydrowonk Blog was launched in 2013 (originally as the Water Strategist Community Blog) to help improve understanding of complex water issues and inform political decisions. We cover all aspects of water marketing, water resource management, and water policy—especially the economic, financial, scientific, engineering, legal, political, and media aspects.
You can find Hydrowonk Blog on Substack.
Water Strategist was the premier publication on water marketing and water policy issues in the 17 western states, covering federal agencies, corporate activity, Indian water resources, and environmental and water quality concerns. Stratecon created WS with its team of natural resource economists, policy experts, and researchers to analyze water markets and policy issues affecting the allocation of water resources and the market value of water rights.
WS began in 1987 as a quarterly publication, and Water Intelligence Monthly was added in 1990 as a monthly companion to WS. In 1999, Stratecon merged the two publications into a single monthly publication—which allowed for more timely reporting of water transactions and offered the ability to provide a greater variety of information and analysis. After finding it increasingly difficult to protect its intellectual property online, Stratecon made the strategic decision in 2010 to stop publishing Water Strategist and offer its expertise solely through its advisory and proprietary research services.
Journal of Water was published from late 2013 through winter 2019 as an online subscription-based journal covering water marketing, finance, legislation, litigation and the water-energy nexus affecting the Colorado River Basin states and Texas. With a change to the nature of the data presented and a modern content management system, Stratecon was better able to protect its intellectual property and saw JOW as a transformation of Water Strategist.
